The station manager and the directors were all gone today to a conference. Took this as a chance to start off with some mid-day punk

Not in order and partial list, didnt write down the rotation songs. the Decemberists song was mostly played because I heard it on Mad Men a week or so before. Bob Dylan was a request- the caller wanted "Only a Pawn" which we didn't have, but I figured "Maggie's Farm" had a similar message.

Oct 9, Thurs 2-4pm. FIRST SHOW

First show by myself. Shows during prime-time weekdays must play about 40% "rotation"- songs from newly released cds in order to establish our CMJ charts and to get airtime to new bands. There are 3 different levels of rotation depending on how much the reviewer (DJs) think it fits in with WPTS's sound. CDs stay on rotation for about 6 to 8 weeks before running recurrent- if it's a high profile release it might be downgraded to low rotation and for regular CDs that means being banished to the huge CD library. I like the idea of rotation because I get to hear bands I've never heard of, but sometimes it gets annoying because you're relying on a short cd review when picking songs to play, hoping they don't suck.
PS- the Chuck D & Henry Rollins version of "Rise Above" is awful, the station needs to get a Black Flag cd already.
